Wigs.

Okay, so you already know how to maintain your wigs, now its time to actually put them on.

The wig I used on my artist was too small for her head, we don't have ones made to fit in our class so we have to just make them work.

You have to tie back all the hair to make sure the cap will go over it. You can use plaits etc.

Now you can go ahead and put the cap over the head. Try and use one that matches the colour of your wig. I used a dark grey wig so I used a black cap.

You can get your artist to help you put the cap and wig on. They can hold the front and pull it down, while you secure them to the back of the head.

I don't have a picture for the next part. With the lace at the front fold it back, making sure you have no hairs in the way. You can then apply a thin line of spirit gum and wait till it becomes tacky. With the folded over lace pull forward and stick down using a pin tail comb.

The one thing I would change about this would probably be the wig itself, it would have been a lot easier if it was the right size. Other than that I think it went pretty good for my first time.

Not your hair.

Wigs, wigs, wigs. Basically if you are wanting to become a media makeup artist, get used to wigs, as you will be using them, a lot. Each wig  needs to be maintained and well looked after before each use. Wigs are used in all areas of the industry, whether it be for TV, movies and sometimes even personal use. A lot of the celebrities we see today wear wigs, usually lace ones. Lace wigs are easy to disguise and look real to someone else, this is because the lace at the front will blend into your natural skin tone and almost look invisible. Application is very important and it is down to the makeup artist to make sure it is applied correctly, if you look after the wig then applying it to your artists head will be easier.

Before and after any use of a wig, you need to brush through it. This is to make sure all knots are brushed out and the wig is either ready for use or washing.

We used bowls in our lesson as there just wasn't enough sinks for us all.  Add some warm water with shampoo and soak your wig in the water. Make sure you wash the wig gently.

You can add conditioner to the wig to make it soft, it would be up to you. After you have finished hold the wig under a tap and rinse through, this will get rid of all the shampoo and conditioner.

When the wig has been washed you can dry it by wrapping it up in a towel and then gently blow drying the wig.

After the wig is clean it needs to be blocked. Getting a block and
wrapping it up in cling film will stop the growth of mould.
When you have prepared your block you can then put your wig on it, to make sure it is secure add some pins at the back, these will hold it in place.

Nearly finished...

Finally make sure the lace at the front is flat to the block and no hair is stuck underneath or in the way. Using the tape and pins apply over the bottom of the lace and put each pin in. You can see by the picture the pattern the pins should create. After you have finished, pin back the remaining tape and store the wig somewhere safe.

Have fun using wigs!

Addict

At the beginning of this lesson we were shown some pretty nasty pictures and the majority of the class were quite shocked at the result some drugs can do to you. I liked this lesson as we could go as heavy as we wanted, making it look like they were in the first stages of addiction or hooked completely. The key to this makeup effect is not to be pretty and precise with your application. I used my supracolours for this design and made sure to spread the marks around the face, adding light brown/red to the rest of the face, to give a very uneven complexion.
Heres a before and after of my artist:

We also learnt how to create track marks. Using a red to create the rings and then a darker colour (brown/purple) in the middle. You can also add in a few light veins.

Good Morning and Welcome to TV Presenter Makeup.

So in this lesson we learnt how to create a simple TV presenter makeup look. It is a really easy makeup look to create, adding a few curls to the hair can finish the look off.

The eyeliner should be quite thin and the eye shadow is often natural colours. I curled the hair using tongs and created a side fringe for my artist. If I was to change anything on this look it would be the hair, maybe next time straightening it instead.

We all used a natural pink/peach lipstick, but depending on the outfit worn and the look you are creating, a darker/brighter lipstick could be used. The TV presenter makeup shouldnt be over done, remember it usually is day time tele, so no dark, heavy colours on the eyes.

One last thing, not to put you under pressure or anything, but the makeup should look perfect and even on each side of the face as the camera can often pick up on mistakes and all the lighting will not help either. Anyway, here are a few closer pictures of the result of my finished look!

How will you look when your older?

Hi guys, yes im back again. I havent posted anything for a while as we have been handing in assignments etc, so I have A LOT to catch up on. We have already aged using make up, now its time to use latex. This was a super fun lesson, but it can get quite messy. I personally think latex can be quite tricky to use as it dries quicker in certain areas, depending on the amount you apply.

First things first, you will need a setting powder, plenty of sponges and makeup, preferably skin illustrator, oh and of course, latex. You will need your artists help in this design, as you need to stretch the skin. There are different directions in which to apply the latex as we want it to look as realistic as possible. Heres a rough idea of the directions:

Make sure to avoid the areas with hair, as latex can sometimes be quite difficult to remove from hair.

As an example I will explain how to apply over the eyelid. Make sure to pull the eye to side, keeping the tension throughout, you can ask your artist to help with this. When you are ready apply the latex with a sponge moving outwards. Avoid the lashes and eyebrow.

Leave the area to dry and then dust over with powder. You will know if the latex has set as it will not be sticky.

Because you have kept the tension, when you let the eye relax you will begin to see the wrinkles that have formed. You can sometimes tease it into place if you are not happy with it.

When you have finished applying latex to the whole face, you can begin to make it look more realistic, using makeup. With a thin brush you can choose the best wrinkles/lines formed and fill in slightly.

I didnt manage to finish my design, as the lesson finished. Im really happy with the lines that formed and I think it came out quite well. Its just a shame I didnt get to finish. Here it is anyway!

No surgery needed.

Wanting those perfect cheek bones? a narrow nose? a great jaw line? You've come to the right place. No surgery needed either, all you need is a little makeup! Highlighting and shading is the key, where you put it is the important thing. Here is a guide with where best to place each colour, make sure to decide on your artists face shape first, you need to know this to decide where everything goes. ALWAYS blend well, you don't want your artist walking down the red carpet with lines all over their face! this way really does work too, it looks incredible when you have finished and you can really see a difference.

Here is where I placed my shader, just below the cheekbone, I then placed shader down the side of the nose, under the jawline and in the temples and hair line. I then shaded well, so there was no visible line.
Here it is, after I had applied the highlighter and blended each area well. To be honest I think the nose is to strong, so I would maybe next time make sure my artists nose is blended better.
